In recent years, we have witnessed a widespread rise in the use of supplements for wellness. There are specific supplements for every need: digestion, circulation, sleep quality, sugar cravings... and for the skin. The skin supplement market has exploded, especially in the last couple of years. Skincare doesn't ends with applying products to the face, but pushes us to go further, acting also from within. We can do it with relying on the right supplement.

Over time, oxidative stress and sun exposure cause our skin to age, and our physiological production of collagen slows down as yers pass by. This is completely physiological, but we can contribute to the well-being of our skin and slow down this process through food supplements.

But how do we choose the right products, with ingredients that are actually supportive of our skin? To juggle the increasingly varied offerings on the market, below you will find a short guide with some useful advices on how to choose your skin supplements.

Ingredients: the ones to look for.

Before focusing on the ingredients to look for in supplements, let's spend a few words on nutrition. Our skin, as well as all the other organs in our body, absorbs nourishment from the food intake, so it's important to make sure we're getting all the nutrients we need for its well-being. Foods rich in vitamins are a great help for the skin, and so are foods rich in fatty acids, such as oily fish or nuts. Mineral salts and antioxidants present in seasonal fruits and vegetables are a godsend to counteract oxidative stress and free radicals that cause premature aging.

We can support a proper diet by taking supplements, in order to support the physiological activities of cell renewal and collagen production of our skin. And now, let's see what ingredients to look for in a skin supplement.

  • Collagen. Collagen is the main ingredient in the composition of our skin. Over the years, the production of collagen in our body slows down, and this can go a long way in affecting the tissues of the joints as well as the skin. Taking collagen supplements is a good way to support our bodies.

  • Vitamins and folic acid. Great ingredients for our entire body, and especially our skin. B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E in particular are among the most widely used for their benefits. Folic acid, or vitamin B9, which is often combined with vitamin B12, provides a great support to cell regeneration, both in our bodies and our skin.

  • Antioxidant ingredients. Lipolic acid, astaxanthin, resveratrol, polyphenols, these are just some of the most commonly used antioxidants in supplements. They are ingredients widely used in cosmetics (Antioxidant Line) , both for skin and hair, for their protective action on tissues. They counteract the formation of free radicals and the resulting cellular oxidation that causes premature aging of the skin. Taking them daily is a great way to protect our skin from external attacks, and keep the appearance of young and healthy skin.

These are all the ingredients to look for in a skin supplement, which combined with a proper skincare routine can bring numerous benefits to the health and appearance of our skin. Because, as we all know by now, beauty also comes from within!
